LUXEMBURG April 23. 2024 (Saba) -The United States should not be allowed to be the lone player in Gaza situation, the Belgian foreign minister said on Tuesday, as the current developments in the Strip should not be forgotten and the humanitarian tragedy there should be stopped.

While the Strip still sees persistent killing, it is not enough to call for ceasefire, release of detainees and delivery of assistance to Gaza, Hadja Lahbib added before a meeting for EU foreign ministers in Luxemburg.

It is time for the European Union to appear obviously in the peace process, she said, dubbing the sanctions on settlers as insufficient, as "we have to impose the sanctions on those arming and defending them."

Recognizing the State of Palestine is a decisive step towards the 'Two-State Solution', and "we're willing to welcome any initiative in this regard," the Belgian top diplomat added.
